  • Assist qualified swimming instructors in delivering swimming lessons for various age groups and ability levels.
  • Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages confidence, promotes fun, and fosters a love of swimming.
  • Adapt teaching techniques to meet the individual needs of each learner, ensuring their safe progression through the Swimming Skills framework.
  • Demonstrate good communication with learners and parents, providing constructive feedback on learners' progress.
  • Assist in the preparation and set up of swimming pool facilities before lessons begin and ensure they are left clean and tidy after each session.
  • Adhere to the organisation's health and safety guidelines and promote water safety at all times. Requirements:

  • Confidence in the water and a strong swimming ability.

*Qualifications: *

  • A genuine passion for teaching swimming and a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Previous experience working as a swimming instructor or assistant, preferably within a structured swimming program.
  • Current Scottish Swimming (ASA) Level 1 Teaching Swimming certificate with an aspiration to work towards the Level 2 qualification while employed.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively engage with participants of all ages and abilities.
  • Good swimming ability, demonstrating competence in a range of strokes.
  • A reliable and flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Current membership with Scottish Swimming (ASA) or willingness to obtain membership upon employment.
  • A clean Disclosure Scotland PVG Scheme Membership certificate.
  • First Aid at Work (FAW) qualification or willingness to obtain this qualification within the first three months of employment.

In this role, you will work closely with our lead swimming teachers, supporting them in delivering lessons and ensuring the overall quality of instruction provided at our facilities. Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist lead swimming teachers in delivering swimming lessons that cater to different age groups, abilities, and swim levels.
  • Maintain a positive and engaging teaching style, ensuring that all students feel comfortable and supported throughout the lesson.
  • Assist with preparing and setting up equipment for lessons, such as floats, noodles, and kickboards.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students to help them progress in their swimming skills.
  • Follow established safety procedures and ensure the well-being of all students during lessons.
  • Contribute ideas and best practices to continuously improve our swimming programs.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with lead teachers, management, and other staff members to ensure a smooth operation of swimming lessons. To be successful in this role, you should have the following skills and qualifications:
  • A minimum ASA Level 1 Swimming Teacher Award (or equivalent) or be willing to work towards obtaining this qualification.
  • Strong swimming abilities, including the ability to swim front crawl for a distance of 50 meters continuously on one breath without touching the pool floor or side.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage, motivate, and support students of all ages.
  • Patience, adaptability, and a genuine passion for teaching swimming and fostering water safety skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with other instructors to deliver high-quality lessons.
  • A current First Aid at Work certificate (or willingness to obtain this qualification) is desirable but not essential. Job Routine

In this role as an Assistant Swimming Teacher with our organization, you will be part of a dynamic and passionate team dedicated to teaching swimming skills to people of all ages and abilities in the vibrant city of Glasgow. *Morning Preparation (9:00 - 10:00): *

  • Arrive at the swimming pool facility, prepare and set up teaching equipment as per the daily lesson plan.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Swimming Teacher to ensure all necessary materials are available for the lessons.

*Morning Lessons (10:00 - 13:00): *

  • Assist the Lead Swimming Teacher in delivering swimming lessons according to the National Plan for teaching Swimming, Aquatic Survival and Water Safety.
  • Demonstrate correct swimming techniques, provide guidance, and encourage students while they practice.
  • Monitor student progress offering constructive feedback and adjusting lesson plans as necessary.
  • Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment that fosters confidence and enjoyment of swimming.

*Lunch Break (13:00 - 14:00): *

  • Take a break for lunch at an agreed location within the pool facility or nearby café. Use this time to recharge and prepare for afternoon lessons.

*Afternoon Lessons (14:00 - 17:00): *

  • Continue assisting with swimming lessons in the afternoon, ensuring that all students receive quality instruction and support.
  • Collaborate with other assistant teachers, sharing best practices and offering mutual support.
  • Remain vigilant to ensure the safety of all students during lessons.

*End of Day (17:00 - 17:30): *

  • Pack up teaching equipment and tidy the swimming pool facility.
  • Complete any necessary paperwork, such as student progress reports or incident reports, if required.
  • Debrief with the Lead Swimming Teacher to discuss the day's lessons and identify areas for improvement.
