Title: Accounts Controller

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Accounts Controller to join our team based in the South West. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing the accounts department, and ensuring compliance with all relevant accounting regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day accounting activities, including bank reconciliations, ledger account maintenance, and month-end closing procedures.

  • Prepare and submit various financial reports to management, stakeholders, and external bodies as required.

  • Oversee the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and business plans.

  • Implement and maintain effective internal controls for financial operations.

  • Ensure all accounting transactions are accurately recorded and posted in a timely manner.

  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data.

  • Mentor junior accountants, providing guidance on best practices and ensuring adherence to company policies.

  • Stay abreast of current accounting trends and regulatory changes, and implement these changes as necessary.

  • Participate in special projects and audits as required.

  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.

  • A professional accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) is preferred but not essential for the right candidate.

  • Proven experience as an Accounts Controller, Finance Manager, or similar role.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.

  • Excellent numerical analysis skills.

  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel.

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.

  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.

  • A proactive approach to problem-solving with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

*Key Responsibilities: *

  • Overseeing the accounts department and leading a team of accountants.
  • Preparing and analyzing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions.
  • Managing budgeting processes to ensure the organisation's financial stability.
  • Coordinating with internal departments and external auditors as necessary.
  • Implementing accounting policies and procedures to maximize efficiency and minimize risk.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and financial standards.
  • Providing financial advice to senior management on strategic decisions.
  • Collaborating with other department heads to ensure financial targets are met.
  • Identifying opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.

*Qualifications: *

  • A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA, or ACCA).
  • Proven experience in a similar role within a medium to large organisation.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a team effectively.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in financial software packages (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A high level of integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
