Candidate Requirements

We are seeking a proficient and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our team in the North East region. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring that accounts are balanced and reconciled on a regular basis, and preparing necessary financial reports.

  • Record daily financial transactions accurately and promptly.

  • Prepare and post journal entries for various accounting categories.

  • Reconcile bank statements with the general ledger accounts.

  • Maintain an up-to-date chart of accounts.

  • Prepare and submit financial reports to management in a timely manner.

  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.

  • Prepare and file tax returns as required.

  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, Accounting Clerk, or similar role.

Routine Tasks

In this role as a Bookkeeper based in the North East, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Here's an outline of the routine tasks you can expect:

  • Data Entry: Record daily transactions into the company accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero). This includes income, expenses, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.

  • Bank Reconciliations: Regularly reconcile bank statements with the company's financial records to ensure accuracy and identify any discrepancies.

  • Invoice Processing: Review invoices from suppliers and approve for payment. Ensure that all invoices are correctly coded, approved by relevant parties, and paid on time.

  • Expense Report Review: Review expense reports submitted by employees for accuracy and compliance with company policy. Approve or deny these reports based on their validity.

  • Petty Cash Management: Maintain the petty cash float, ensuring that it is regularly replenished and appropriately used for minor expenses.

  • Payroll Processing: Prepare payroll for employees, ensuring accurate calculation of wages, deductions, and taxes. Submit these calculations to the appropriate payroll service or HR department.

  • Accounts Receivable Management: Follow up on outstanding invoices, ensure timely payment, and communicate with clients as necessary regarding any issues or delays in payment.

  • Accounts Payable Management: Review accounts payable, schedule payments to suppliers, and make the appropriate payments according to the agreed terms.

  • Financial Reporting: Generate financial reports (e.g., income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements) for review by management or other stakeholders. Identify any trends, issues, or opportunities for cost savings.

  • General Ledger Maintenance: Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accurate coding of all transactions and proper classification of assets, liabilities, equity, revenues, and expenses.

  • Payment of Taxes: Prepare and submit the company's tax payments (e.g., VAT, PAYE) in a timely manner to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

  • Preparation of Financial Statements: Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements for external audit or submission to higher management.

  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Work closely with management to develop budgets for upcoming periods, using historical data and industry trends to inform these projections.
