  • Proven experience as an Application Services Analyst or similar role within an ICT department.
  • Strong knowledge of application servers, databases, and development tools.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Java, or similar.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think logically under pressure.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with ITIL framework is desirable but not essential.

Job Responsibilities

As an ICT Application Services Analyst, you will be responsible for the following key tasks:

  • Support and Maintenance of Applications: You will be expected to provide ongoing support, maintenance, and troubleshooting for various applications within the organization. This includes resolving application issues, implementing software upgrades, and ensuring the smooth operation of these applications.

  • System Administration: You will be responsible for the administration of servers, networks, and databases. This involves tasks such as monitoring system performance, troubleshooting system issues, and making necessary adjustments to ensure optimal system functionality.

  • Application Development and Integration: In collaboration with the development team, you will be involved in the design, development, testing, and implementation of new applications or enhancements to existing ones. You may also be required to integrate new applications with existing systems.

  • Change Management: You will be responsible for managing changes to the IT infrastructure and applications in a controlled and systematic manner. This includes assessing the impact of proposed changes, coordinating changes with other teams, and ensuring that changes are documented and communicated appropriately.

  • Incident and Problem Resolution: You will be expected to respond to incidents, diagnose problems, and implement solutions in a timely and efficient manner. This may involve working closely with other IT staff, vendors, or external experts as necessary.

  • Collaboration with Stakeholders: You will work closely with various stakeholders across the organization, including end-users, management, and other IT teams. This includes understanding business needs, communicating effectively about technical matters, and working collaboratively to deliver solutions that meet both technical and business requirements.

  • Compliance and Security: You will be responsible for ensuring that all applications and systems comply with relevant policies, standards, and regulations. This includes maintaining up-to-date knowledge of security threats and implementing appropriate measures to protect the organization's IT infrastructure and data.

  • Continuous Improvement: You will participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency, effectiveness, and reliability of the organization's IT systems and applications. This may involve implementing new technologies, processes, or best practices.

  • Training and Mentoring: You may be expected to provide training and mentoring to less experienced staff members, as well as collaborate with other teams to share knowledge and improve overall IT capabilities within the organization.

  • Project Work: From time to time, you may be required to work on specific projects related to application development, deployment, or maintenance. This may involve working to tight deadlines and coordinating with various stakeholders across the organization.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A master's degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., MCSE, CCNA) are advantageous.

  • Proven experience as an Application Services Analyst, IT analyst, or similar role, preferably within the Welsh industry.

  • Strong understanding of current technologies and trends in ICT Application Services, including cloud computing, virtualization, and software-defined networks (SDN).

  • Expertise in application development, maintenance, and troubleshooting across various platforms and programming languages (e.g., Java, .NET, Python).

  • Proficiency in database management systems such as Oracle, MySQL, or Microsoft SQL Server.

  • Experience with IT service management (ITSM) tools like ServiceNow, BMC Helix, or similar.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop effective solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Understanding of IT governance principles, including ITIL best practices, ISO standards, and data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR).

  • Familiarity with network architecture and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, and SSL/TLS.

  • Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Perl for automation and system administration tasks.

  • Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes, and experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

  • Ability to travel within Wales as required, and a valid driving license (if applicable).

  • Troubleshoot technical issues, identify root causes, and implement resolutions.

  • Strong technical knowledge of operating systems, databases, network architecture, and application development.

  • Familiarity with various IT service management (ITSM) frameworks, such as ITIL or Six Sigma.

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, as well as independently.

  • A willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing IT landscapes.

  • Proficiency in Welsh or English language, with fluency preferred.
