NPD Technologist | Job in Shropshire
We are seeking a dynamic and innovative NPD Technologist to join our team in the vibrant and industrious region of West Midlands. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a passionate professional to contribute to the development and launch of new and innovative food products that cater to our diverse customer base.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, marketing, sales, and procurement, to develop and launch new product ideas from concept to commercialization.
Utilize a deep understanding of food science and technology to design and improve existing products, ensuring they meet quality standards, consumer preferences, and regulatory requirements.
Conduct extensive research on market trends, customer preferences, and competitor activities to identify opportunities for product development and improvement.
Collaborate with external suppliers, vendors, and partners to source ingredients, packaging materials, and other resources required for product development.
Manage the NPD process, ensuring timely delivery of projects while maintaining a high level of quality and innovation.
Conduct thorough sensory evaluations of products to ensure they meet desired specifications and are ready for commercialization.
Support the scaling-up of new products in our manufacturing facilities and troubleshoot any issues that arise during this process.
Continuously improve product development processes, seeking ways to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
Stay abreast of industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure our products remain competitive and compliant.
Collaborate with the marketing team to develop compelling product stories and messaging that resonate with consumers.
Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Nutrition, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees (e.g., Master's or PhD) are preferred but not essential.
Proven experience in product development roles within the food and beverage industry, ideally at least 3 years of experience in an NPD role.
Strong knowledge of food science principles, including sensory evaluation, processing, packaging, and quality control.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and external partners.
Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to finding solutions.
Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet tight deadlines.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to conduct thorough sensory evaluations and troubleshoot issues during product development.
Familiarity with food regulations and quality standards is essential. Experience working in a certified HACCP or BRC-certified environment is desirable.
