SEND Support and Vocational Tutor | Job in County Durham
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Experience: Proven experience in supporting students with SEND, particularly those on the Autistic Spectrum or with complex learning needs.
Vocational Teaching: Expertise in delivering vocational education across a range of subjects such as Construction, Engineering, Hair & Beauty, and IT. Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the individual needs of students.
Inclusive Classroom Practice: Demonstrable experience in creating an inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and supported.
Behavior Management: Strong behavior management skills with the ability to manage challenging behaviors in a positive and supportive manner.
Assessment and Record Keeping: Proficiency in assessing student progress, setting appropriate targets, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
Collaborative Working: Excellent teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, and other support staff to ensure the best possible outcomes for students.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with parents/carers and external agencies.
Continuous Professional Development (CPD): Commitment to ongoing professional development, staying abreast of new teaching methods and SEND research.
Experience in the North East: Knowledge and understanding of the educational landscape in the North East region, including local authorities and support services.
Specialist Qualifications: Qualifications or training in areas such as Autism, Dyslexia, or Behavioral Difficulties would be advantageous.
Resourcefulness: Ability to think creatively and develop innovative strategies to engage students and improve their learning experiences.
Resilience: Demonstrable resilience in the face of challenges, with a positive and proactive attitude towards overcoming obstacles.
Emotional Intelligence: High levels of emotional intelligence, with the ability to understand and manage one's own emotions, as well as empathize with students and colleagues.
Driving License: A full, valid driving license would be beneficial due to the need for occasional travel between sites.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate SEND Support and Vocational Tutor to join our team in the North East region. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), delivering vocational education, and promoting their personal development and independence.
Provide individualized support to students with SEND, addressing their unique needs and abilities in a learning environment that fosters growth and development.
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and accessible vocational lessons tailored to the specific requirements of students.
Collaborate closely with teaching staff, therapists, and other educational professionals to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
Assess, monitor, and evaluate student progress, adapting instructional strategies as needed to facilitate learning.
Contribute to the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with SEND.
Liaise with parents, guardians, and carers to maintain open communication regarding student progress and any concerns or issues that may arise.
Collaborate with external agencies and organisations as required to ensure comprehensive support for students.
Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in SEND support and vocational education.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
Foster positive relationships with students, promoting emotional well-being, resilience, and self-esteem.
A degree in Special Education, Educational Psychology, or a related field is required.
Proven experience supporting students with SEND in a vocational setting is essential.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are required to effectively collaborate with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously are necessary for success in this role.
A valid teaching qualification or equivalent professional certification is desirable.
Familiarity with relevant SEND legislation and policy is advantageous.
Experience using assistive technology and strategies to support students with diverse needs is beneficial.
