*Job Duties: Software R&D Tax Specialist *
In this role as a Software R&D Tax Specialist based in the East Midlands, you will be responsible for the following key duties:
- *Project Management:
- Oversee and manage multiple R&D tax credit projects, ensuring their timely completion while maintaining high-quality deliverables.
- *Client Relationship Building:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their unique business needs and communicating effectively to meet those needs.
- *R&D Tax Credit Advisory:
- Provide expert advice on R&D tax credits, including eligibility, qualifying activities, and claim preparation for software development projects.
- *Claim Preparation:
- Prepare, review, and submit R&D tax credit claims in accordance with HMRC guidelines, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and deadlines.
- *Documentation Review:
- Conduct thorough reviews of clients' technical documentation to identify eligible R&D activities and costs.
- *Technical Expertise:
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of software development processes, technologies, and industry trends to accurately assess R&D activities.
- *Continuous Learning:
- Stay updated with changes in R&D tax credit legislation and HMRC guidelines to ensure accurate advice and claim preparation.
- *Training and Mentoring:
- Assist in the training and development of junior team members, sharing your expertise and promoting a culture of continuous learning within the team.
- *Business Development:
- Contribute to business growth by identifying new opportunities for R&D tax credit claims and developing strategies to capitalize on those opportunities.
- *Internal Compliance:
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with our firm's quality, risk management, and confidentiality policies.
Competencies
Extensive knowledge of software development and the software lifecycle, including Agile methodologies.
Proficiency in understanding complex software architecture and technologies.
Strong analytical skills to evaluate technical documentation and software code.
Familiarity with tax legislation related to Research & Development (R&D) tax credits in the UK, particularly the R&D Tax Credit Scheme.
Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a knack for identifying qualifying activities and costs within software development projects.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate technical concepts to clients and internal teams.
Ability to build strong relationships with clients, understanding their business needs and communicating the potential benefits of R&D tax credits effectively.
Proactive approach to client management, including identifying new opportunities for R&D tax credit claims.
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple client projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and high-quality work is delivered consistently.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CRM systems for data management and reporting.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team, contributing ideas and feedback to enhance the overall service offered by the company.
A self-starter with a proactive attitude, able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Excellent attention to detail to ensure all R&D tax credit claims are accurate and compliant.
Strong ethical standards, maintaining confidentiality and upholding the company's values at all times.
Adaptability to quickly learn new software technologies and tax legislation updates.
A commitment to continuous personal development, staying updated on industry trends and best practices in R&D tax credits.
Experience working within the East Midlands region is beneficial but not essential.
Prior experience in a similar role, either in-house or at an accountancy firm or consultancy, is desirable but not necessary.
Knowledge of other UK R&D tax credit schemes and relevant legislation in the EU is advantageous.
An accounting qualification (ACA, CTA, ACCA) is not essential but would be considered a plus.
