Skill Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 National 5 qualifications at SCQF level 5 or equivalent, including English and Mathematics

  • SVQ Level 2 in Children's Care, Learning & Development (SCQF level 6) or equivalent qualification

  • A willingness to work towards a full SVQ Level 3 in Children's Care, Learning & Development (SCQF level 7) if not already achieved

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a school setting is desirable but not essential

  • Demonstrable understanding of the challenges and opportunities presented by working with children with additional support needs or those requiring special attention

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage effectively with pupils and colleagues

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, including working under the direction of teachers and other support staff

  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards supporting the learning and development of children

  • Good organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively

  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, with a focus on finding practical solutions to challenges that may arise during the working day

Candidate Requirements

We are seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join our school as a Teaching Assistant in West Lothian. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of experienced teachers and play a crucial role in supporting the academic, emotional, and social development of our students.

  • Assist teachers in preparing and delivering lessons to meet individual student needs

  • Provide one-on-one support to students with specific learning difficulties or special educational needs

  • Help create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment

  • Support the supervision of students during lessons, breaks, and other school activities

  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to ensure the smooth running of the classroom

  • A minimum of 2 Highers or equivalent qualifications in relevant subjects (e.g., English, Mathematics, Science)

  • Successful completion of a relevant Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) level 2 or higher in Social Services: Children and Young People is desirable but not essential

  • A genuine interest in supporting the educational progression of young people

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Sensitivity and understanding towards the needs and concerns of children with various abilities and backgrounds

  • A willingness to undertake regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities

  • Experience working with children, ideally within an educational setting

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation regarding child protection and safeguarding

  • An understanding of the challenges faced by young people in today's society

  • Proficiency in a second language, particularly Gaelic or Urdu, would be advantageous but is not essential
